Support for patients living in unsafe or unhealthy housing

Support for tenants is a service working across England and Wales to assist patients whose health or wellbeing is affected by unsafe housing conditions, including damp, mould, leaks and inadequate heating.

These housing issues can worsen or trigger conditions such as asthma, COPD, skin irritation, anxiety and depression. Many patients are unaware of their rights or face barriers when seeking help from their landlords.

Their aim is to ensure that patients receive the repairs and support they are legally entitled to - at no cost to them.

The service provides:

  • Free property inspections and professional housing disrepair assessments
  • Legal support through their panel of regulated solicitors to ensure repairs are completed and compensation secured where appropriate
  • Practical assistance to help patients resolve housing issues effectively
  • Interpreters and translators for those who need language support
